Privacy policy

Your server is not our catalog.

Effective August 14, 2026

HanaPlay is an Apple TV client for personal media servers. The current app has no separate HanaPlay account or built-in media subscription. This policy distinguishes information held by your chosen media provider from metadata processed by HanaPlay-operated services.

1. Information on your device

To connect and perform requested actions, HanaPlay may store a server address, provider type, account or profile identifier, user-selected preferences, and provider-issued access or refresh tokens. Provider sessions are stored using Apple's Keychain. Catalog records, artwork, title mappings, playback position, watch state, search state, and performance caches may be stored locally so the app can load and navigate efficiently.

Use the provider's sign-out or remove-server control to delete its saved session from HanaPlay. Deleting the app removes ordinary app-container caches subject to Apple's platform behavior; manage media, server accounts, and server-side history on the server itself.

2. Your personal media server

When you choose Plex, Silo, Jellyfin, or Emby, HanaPlay communicates with that provider or server to request libraries, artwork, title details, playback plans or media, versions, subtitles, progress, and watched state. Your server and provider account remain responsible for their own storage, logs, remote-access behavior, retention, and privacy practices.

HanaPlay does not operate your personal media server and does not treat its catalog as HanaPlay-owned content.

3. HanaMeta metadata requests

HanaPlay may send HanaMeta public title identifiers and limited lookup context such as media type, year, season, or episode information to match and enrich a title. HanaMeta may return public artwork, ratings, credits, provider availability, recommendations, and other descriptive metadata. It is not intended to receive or store media files as part of metadata enrichment.

HanaMeta may cache public metadata and process limited infrastructure information, such as request time, route, response status, and network information made available to the hosting platform, to operate, secure, diagnose, and improve the service. A fixed log-retention period is not currently published. We do not sell personal information or use the website pages for advertising profiles.

4. Diagnostics

HanaPlay keeps bounded playback and app diagnostics on the device, including safe error codes, selected route characteristics, timing, and performance information. Diagnostics are not automatically submitted as a support report. If you contact support, send only the relevant error code and context, and remove server addresses, tokens, usernames, and private network details.

5. Trakt and iCloud

The current release does not provide HanaPlay-managed Trakt authentication. Your Plex, Silo, Jellyfin, or Emby server may have its own Trakt integration, which is governed by that server and Trakt. If HanaPlay adds a direct Trakt connection, it will be opt-in and this policy will be updated before use.

HanaPlay's current tvOS target does not enable iCloud or CloudKit synchronization for media-server state. Provider credentials, private server URLs, media files, artwork caches, playback manifests, and diagnostics are not intentionally written to iCloud by HanaPlay. If private iCloud synchronization is enabled in a future release, its exact data categories and controls will be disclosed first.

6. Service providers and public metadata sources

Depending on the feature you use, data may be processed by Apple, your selected media-server provider, Google Cloud hosting for HanaMeta, and public metadata services consulted by HanaMeta, such as TMDB, IMDb-related data providers, Rotten Tomatoes-related data providers, Metacritic-related data providers, MDBList, Fanart.tv, and Trakt. Their own terms and privacy policies apply to their services.

7. Retention and deletion

Local records remain until they expire, are replaced, you sign out, clear the relevant state, or remove the app, depending on the record. Your media server controls its own retention. HanaMeta retains cached public metadata and operational records only as needed to run and protect the service, subject to hosting and legal requirements.

For an identifiable support message or HanaPlay-operated record, contact [email protected] to ask what can be accessed, corrected, or deleted. We may need enough information to verify and locate the request, and some records may be retained when required for security, legal, or fraud-prevention purposes.

8. Children

HanaPlay is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children through a HanaPlay account, because the current app has no HanaPlay account system. Household media access remains controlled by the connected server and Apple TV account settings.

9. Security

HanaPlay uses platform protections such as Keychain storage for provider sessions and HTTPS where configured. No system can guarantee absolute security. Keep tvOS, HanaPlay, your media server, and reverse proxy current; use HTTPS for access outside a trusted local network; and revoke provider sessions you no longer use.

10. Changes and contact

Material changes will be reflected here with a revised effective date. Questions about this policy can be sent to [email protected].
